PLTO Facilities Maintainer: Riverdale, MD

Reports To: Manager of Facilities Maintenance

Salary: $19.00 - $24.00 per hour

SUMMARY

Purple Line Transit Operators (PLTO) is a member of a private consortium (Purple Line Transit Partners) which holds a Public-Private Partnership (P3) contract with the Maryland Department of Transportation/Maryland Transit Administration (MDOT/MTA) for the design, construction, operation, maintenance, and financing of the Purple Line, a new 16 mile/21 station light rail transit line located in Montgomery County and Prince George’s County, Maryland (https://www.purplelinemd.com/). PLTO is responsible for Operations and Maintenance (O&M) of the Purple Line Light Rail system within Maryland’s Montgomery County and Prince George’s County, where the Glenridge and Lyttonsville O&M Facilities (OMFs) are located, respectively. We seek a committed individual responsible for maintaining our facilities, including the Purple Line OMFs and light rail stations.

Responsibilities:

  • Inspect buildings, stations, structures, equipment, and facilities to ensure compliance with PLTO facility maintenance and safety standards.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance of facility equipment.
  • Complete work orders for tasks related to the physical maintenance and repairs of the assigned buildings, stations, structures, equipment, or facilities, utilizing work orders generated by software programs.
  • Assist the Manager of Facilities Maintenance in implementing a comprehensive preventive maintenance plan, maintain all related records and logs, and carry out physical inventory of assets and spares.
  • Perform equipment diagnosis for both electrical and mechanical issues.
  • Troubleshoot and repair all standard electrical components, detect minor equipment problems, and correct the problems before they become major issues.
  • Clean and lubricate machinery.
  • Troubleshoot PLC systems and other control systems.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and toolbox needed to carry out the job
  • Identify conditions that require attention and correct defects or issue notices for corrections to appropriate staff.
  • Report to Manager of Facilities Maintenance issues with equipment or list of parts that must be ordered to complete repairs.
  • Perform building modifications and all other facility maintenance that does not require the attention of a licensed craftsman. This includes, but it not limited to, painting and drywall, landscaping, sprinkler maintenance, asphalt and concrete repairs, graffiti removal, glass and door repairs, light bulbs changes, light fixtures repairs, and trash and snow removal.
  • Complete reports and record completed inspections and repairs using preventive maintenance software.
  • Respond to emergency situations in accordance with departmental procedures and policies.
  • Complete all required company training.
  • Complete all other duties as assigned.

Desired Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 3 years of experience working in electricity up to 600 Volts, plumbing, construction, HVAC, machine shop and/or irrigation systems
  • Experience working in an industrial, transportation, or commercial environment is highly desired.
  • Familiar with Building Automation Systems (BAS).
  • Ability to identify and assess defects in the appearance or functionality and repair damages.
  • Ability to comply with all safety rules, policies, and instructions including the use of proper personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret operating and maintenance manuals, schematics, prints, instructions, parts catalogs, and nameplates.
  • Ability to safely operate equipment and tools typically used in buildings, workshops, and grounds maintenance.
  • Ability to prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Computer skills with the ability to communicate via email and prepare reports.
  • Must be able to work outside in variable weather conditions.
  • Must possess a valid state driver’s license; Class A CDL preferred.
  • Ability and availability to work varying shifts (1st, 2nd, and 3rd).
  • Willingness to work during evening, weekend, and holiday hours as needed.
  • Subject to on-call status 24/7.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, and sit for periods of time varying in length, walk up and down stairs, and lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

This is a physical position. Candidates can expect to be on the move for much of their shift performing the following physical activities:

  • Climb ladders, balance, squat, kneel, and crouch.
  • Lift and carry heavy objects, up to 50 lbs.
  • Push and pull objects and in the use of tools & equipment.

Work Environment

Successful candidates will be expected to work in an environment where an in-office presence and frequent field visits may be required. Some travel may be required to collaborate with partners or attend trainings.

While performing the duties of this job (while in the field), the employee must be aware of his/her surroundings and may be exposed to outside weather conditions, moving mechanical systems, and building components as well as varying noise levels both within the rail maintenance yards and inside the Operations and Maintenance Facility (OMF).  Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is always required while in the field and in construction zones.
